Project B16 – controllable shunt reactor IAE 330 kV AtS

During operation and final shutdown of Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) it was important to ensure regulation of voltage level in Ignalina power management unit. During INPP operation voltage level was regulated by turbine generators, which changed the consumption of reactive power. After the final shutdown of both blocks the voltage level is regulated by controllable shunt reactor (CSR), which was installed in the open switchyard (330 kV ATS) of Ignalina PP.

The consortium agreement between Ekobana UAB (Vilnius, Lithuania), Kauno energetikos remontas UAB (Kaunas, Lithuania) and Siemens UAB (Germany) was signed in 17 October 2006.

Along with CSR, ancillary equipment necessary to ensure the connection to the 330 kV network was supplied: high voltage elegas (electronegative gas) switches, disconnectors, measuring instrument transformers, bus structures, telemetry control, alarms, data transmission, electrical power accounting systems, relay protection, system automation, fire-fighting equipment, etc.

For the project, the following works have been carried out:

-    CSR facility design preparation.

-    Supply of equipment, construction, installation and commissioning of the following: installation and commissioning of relay protection and automation (RPA) equipment; manufacture and supply of primary electrical equipment and RPA equipment; development and supply of telemetry control, alarms, data transmission systems software, installation and commissioning of this system; manufacture and supply of CSR equipment; CSR design, manufacture, adjustment, and engineering support of network testing and installation.

Reactor start-up and adjustment tests were completed in September 2008 and the reactor is in operation now.

The project was financed by the International INPP Decommissioning Support Fund, administered by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Installation of new 6 MW turbine generator

During phosphorus fertilizer production process and burning natural sulfur, large quantity of heat is released. Following improvements in technological solutions for sulfuric acid unit and installing a heat recovery system (HRS), it was possible to recover even more waste heat energy. For this purpose, it was decided to start a new 6 MW turbine generator. Ekobana UAB together with Visaginas Energoremontas UAB has won the tender and executed the project of installation of the turbine K-6,1-0,68 and the generator ТПС-6-2ЕУ3.

After the reconstruction, using waste heat sources, Lifosa AB supplies electrical power not only for its own needs, but also has a surplus, which it supplies to the national electricity grid, and for heating of Kėdainiai city annually supplies approximately 100,000 MWh of thermal energy.

Modernization of hydrogen generator

Old electrolyzers СЭУ-4 in Kaunas Heat and Power Plant UAB were dismantled. We selected and installed new container-type electrolysis unit Hogen H 160, performed start-up and adjusting operations, and personnel training. Capacity of the new electrolyzer is 4 Nm3/h.
